Miners Association opposes FG ban

The Nigerian Miners' Association, Niger State Chapter, has called for a review of the federal government's ban on mining activities and motorcycles.

The association's president, Alhaji Mohammed Mambo, said at a press conference in Minna that the ban would worsen the unemployment rate  among young and female gangs in the country's mining industry.

He said thousands of young Nigerians and women are benefiting from the mining sector and motorcycle  business as they lack alternatives to earn a living. According to him, banning mining and motorcycles would be counterproductive and would increase insecurity as more young people would likely be recruited into criminal gangs. Women in mining representative  Khadijat Alimashawun regretted that women in mining were concerned about the decision  that it would deplete women's wealth in.

He said that government at all levels should take into account the plight of Nigerians. women, adding that the miners in the state of Niger are well coordinated, registered and licensed.
